Robin PembrookeKeynote Address: Real World Convergence – An Operational View

Robin Pembrooke, Group Director of Online and Interactive, Global Radio

For years, we’ve all been hearing about “digital convergence” but haven’t seen too many great examples of it and it certainly hasn’t taken off to the degree the prognisticators earlier in the decade would have had us believe. However, the iPhone and other smart phones have begun to change that and have allowed us to interact with the web in places other than our desks.

Robin Pembrooke sits in an convergence sweet spot between offline radio, digital broadcasting, and interactive and has delivered successful, real world convergence for Global Radio. Robin will take a look at what has worked for them and share what operations teams need to be doing today to be able to successfully implement, deliver, and report on a ‘beyond the browser’ campaign. The internet has finally been decoupled from traditional computers and people are listening to the radio, watching YouTube, viewing maps, and using the internet while on the go. This change has big implications for marketers and will require a whole new set of skills for online ad ops teams.

Robin Pembrooke is the Group Director of Online and Interactive for Global Radio. Robin’s team are responsible for the company’s online strategy and products across such brands as Heart, ClassicFM, 95.8 Capital FM, Xfm and Galaxy. In the last year the team have completely redesigned and developed the sites of Xfm and 95.8 Capital FM, launching new features such as Artists Database, Interactive Playlists, Ticketing, Downloads and Local Guides. Global’s online audiences and revenues have grown rapidly in the last year.

Most recently the team have launched and iPhone application for 95.8 Capital FM which supports visualisation, London weather and Travel news. It was the No1 music application on iTunes for Christmas 2008.

Prior to Global, Robin was Yahoo! Europe’s Director of Product Operations with responsibility for the delivery of new products and services across the region. As part of this role he built a market leading team of web developers, project managers, designers and search engine optimisation experts.

All conference events will be held at the hotel.
