Privacy Panel: Operating on the Front Lines of the Privacy Debate

It is a mistake for any organization to simply wait to see if/when Washington will pass regulations regarding consumer data. It is also a mistake to leave the discussion to the lawyers or privacy officers because operations deals with privacy issues on a daily basis. This moderated panel will explore the issues of privacy and how operations is at the center of the discussion.

Moderator Rob Beeler: Vice President, Content & Media 

Rob Beeler

Rob Beeler will moderate a conversation between industry experts that is sure to generate some controversy. Topics will touch on how online advertising has evolved and what the future holds. Specifically, they will examine the impact of the new market-driven economy on how buyers and sellers can work together the maintain growth in online advertising. Together they will try to identify ways in which business leaders throughout the ecosystem can leverage operations and technology to increase profit and profitability.

Bob Bahramipour, Vice President of Business Development 

 

Bob brings 15 years of media and Internet experience to TRUSTe. Prior to TRUSTe, Bob served as the Vice President of business development at YuMe, where he was responsible for building the largest video advertising network on the Internet. Before YuMe, as a senior member of the Yahoo! Search team Bob managed Yahoo!'s search toolbar business and oversaw product, distribution, and partnerships. 

 

Prior to Yahoo! Bob led international partnerships at 3721 Technology Co Ltd., which was acquired by Yahoo! in 2003, and co-founded online marketplace Switchouse, Inc. where he oversaw business development. Bob is active in the technology and venture communities and serves on the board of advisors of StumbleUpon. Bob received his BS from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and attended Northwestern’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Business.

Stephen KlineStephen Kline, Senior Counsel, Privacy and Regulatory Matters

Stephen Kline is currently Senior Counsel, Privacy and Regulatory Matters at Omnicom Media Group, the media services division of Omnicom Group Inc. where he advises OMG companies on global privacy matters, and in particular those relating to online behavioral advertising.  Kline has advised clients on privacy matters for more than a decade. Prior to his work in the private sector prosecuted Internet fraud, privacy violations, and cybercrimes at the offices of the Manhattan District Attorney and the New York Attorney General. Kline is a Certified Information Privacy Professional, a member of 4As Privacy and Government Relations Committees, and lectures on Internet privacy, social media, and identity.

Ashkan Soltani, Consultant

Ashkan Soltani is an independent researcher and consultant specializing in consumer privacy and security on the Internet. He has more than 15 years of experience as a technology consultant and has published three major reports on the extent and means of online tracking: "KnowPrivacy: The Current State of Web Privacy, Data Collection, and Information Sharing", "Flash Cookies and Privacy", and "Flash Cookies and Privacy II" (addendum here). His work highlights the prevalence and practice of tracking online, including the use of specific technologies designed to circumvent consumer privacy choices online. He has served as a staff technologist in the Division of Privacy and Identity Protection at the Federal Trade Commission and also worked as the primary technical consultant on the Wall Street Journal’s What They Know series investigating Internet privacy and online tracking.

Finally, he recently testified as an independent expert in front of the Senate Commerce Committee hearing on "The State of Online Consumer Privacy" and the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Protecting Mobile Privacy: Your Smartphones, Tablets, Cell Phones and Your Privacy"
