Lou Mastria

Lou Mastria, CIPP, CISSP has spearheaded privacy strategy for in diverse and complex environments for more than a decade. He has been responsible for oversight, direction and implementation of information use and security policies to ensure compliance with legal regulations, industry guidelines and best practices. Throughout his career, he has championed programs that strike a thoughtful balance between the needs of the business and the benefits to consumers.
Mastria has been the Chief Privacy Officer at both regulated and self-regulated organizations, as well as the head of the US Direct Marketing Association’s Office of Public Affairs. He successfully architected a first-of-its-kind Privacy By Design-based database system at Canoe Ventures, LLC (a joint venture of the nation’s 6 largest cable companies) to responsibly manage TV data. Prior to that, Mastria was Chief Privacy Officer at DataLogix Corp., a leading provider of database services.
He has also held several key thought-leadership positions. He led the DMA's policy on email authentication, the founding of the Interactive Marketing Advisory Board and development of best practices for online affiliate advertising, was a founding member of the Authentication & Online Trust Alliance, as well as acting as a key figure in more traditional areas of interactive marketing policy, including numerous privacy initiatives. He also worked effectively with business leaders to spearhead DMA’s support of the US SAFE Web Act.
Mastria continues to serve in thought-leadership roles at the DMA through his election to the DMA Program Advisory Committees. He also participates actively in the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) Public Policy Committee.
Mastria is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals and a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) through the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc., (ISC)²®. He holds a B.A in Political Science from New Jersey City University and a M.A. in Public Policy from Rutgers University.
